Challenge of the Will

Will I Am has been marked by Broosta and other priests to take the role of Champion of Pavis.

How will Will act prior to that, to make his promotion unimpeachable and his political position unassailable?

One advantage of the moment may be that Sor-eel's administration is worried about other things.

Will has a growing following among the people, but there are still folks who don't know who he is or what he has done. Especially among the humans of Huntside--that is, across the river around zebratown in the rubble.

Some big, public win would go a long way toward cementing the position that he's about to ascend to.

Will's Challenge

Greetings,
Will's challenge is more personal than earning the position of "Champion of Pavis". So, as Will spends time among the citizens of the city (healing Pavisite, enlivining winter plants, quoting Pavis and harmonizing the people despite their travails), he also listens to who they think the Champion should be. That's in case there is another who is more qualified. All along Will wants what is best for the city and must roll his City Administrator vs. his Will to Power in order to consider another as the best choice. However, whether there actually is another suitable candidate or not, Will continues to hunt down Chaos beasts in the city plus put his "know true motives" and "City Defender" augments into the mix for the Thanatari interrogation. Specific actions to earn public confidence is something that we can discuss later tonight.

Grim Reminder

Greetings,
It was comfortable playing Will again, even though much time has past. The moment of welcoming the Heortlings into the Hero Band and being a friend to others in need made me feel warm & fuzzy. (Will felt fuzzy, but cold). Anyway, thanks for reminding us of how imporatant it is to plan and to know one's enemy. Perhaps our weaker Teshnan characters can apply this kind of thinking to solve their problems. Does anyone think that something should have been done to disrupt the Lunar rituals?

Increasing the Power of the Will

Here's what I recall as how Will's attempt to save people into his hero band will go:

Base resistance 14 + {number of targets per the multiple targets rule}
(10 people = +20, 100 people = +40, 300 people = +60, 1000 = + 80)
(The fact that the base resistance is only 14 shows exactly how terrible the conditions are for your targets. Normally, they would resist with their cultural traditions augmented with their Initiate of X)

Example: Increase the band by 100 people has a resistance of 14 + 40=14W2

Will may call upon the resources of the household, his personal magic, the hero band and the Pavis Cult, as well as any other heroes he can convince. Relationship rolls may be necessary to get some of these people to help.

Complete Victory over the resistance means that every single person recruited stays a member of the band and has a Loyal to Will of 17.

Complete Defeat means the ruination of all resources used, up to and potentially including loss of your entire fortune, the looting and burning of the Manor, stoning of Broosta, exile of Will and most of the recruits starving to death.

Other levels of victory and defeat are lesser versions of these two: A minor victory would mean that the whole number join, but some abandoned you, some starved to death, their relationship is only 13, etc. for example.

Recruiting 1000 people would mean, essentially, that every single heortling (and many Pavisites) in and near Pavis become one of your followers.

Now there's a way to smooth out the politics of becoming Champion! Not to mention indulging Will's Will to Power.

It also has a resistance of 14W4.

That sounds huge, but I'll bet that with good relationship rolls, careful marshaling of resources, and a couple of hero points, it is achievable.

A take on visionary attitude

Here's an example of something I think might be a little bit like Will's attitude.

Rereading

Greetings
I printed this in order to reread it. I like the prose, but the meaning is lost to me unless it is like Will's memory of an earlier time fused with a modern (or even futuristic) perspective. Prease to esprain?

see

Perhaps I overemphasized.

Let me add the emphasis to the phrase "a little bit like" rather than the quoted text.

It's a little bit like Will because it is a great hero speaking of a transformation and a new paradise that must be made.

this is from Miracleman.

In Living Context

Greetings,
Thanks for the context. Now I understand what you mean. Of course Will does not expect small goats or children to be sacrificed...still, a roaring bonfire would be nice this time of year.
