Kirk's Game!
Submitted by mike on Sat, 12/30/2006 - 15:54
Kirk has offered to take up the slack on the game days when the attendees are me, him, and Jon, I think. That way we'll be close to having a game for any combination of attendees.
He's thinking of running a game set on a ship! "Pirate hunters" is what he called it.
Yaaar!
Seaborn Child
OK! If this works for Kirk, here is the final of Seaborn Child. Still looking for other players to interrelate with. (Kirk sounded pretty set on the idea of not having one of the player heroes be the captain.)
Name: Seaborn Child
Profession:Spirit Talker, maybe a shaman
Magic: Outer Ocean Ancients, Varchulanga Practice.
100 words!
Thief didn't work once I looked at the skills, so I'm going with spirit talker. If Kirk decides on advanced characters, I may choose to have a shaman. But probably not.
I'm very very interested in tying my character to the rest of the characters with relationships. Think of how at the beginning of Pirates of the Caribbean Will Turner already had a Love Elizabeth 5W. Maybe one of you is my forced rescuer?
Here's some backstory, not description:
Washed ashore following a great storm, [some contact yet to be named, a king or admiral or fishwife] freed Seaborn Child from a [egg or pearl or shell or something] and took her home to raise as their own. Seaborn at first refused to eat, but when forced to suckle for seven drops of milk, she suddenly grew to full size and spoke "So now I must be in this world and serve Mankind for their kindness, one year for every drop."
Any of the other players interested in being Seaborn Child's "savior"?

Kirk
"You speak in riddles," said Conan uneasily. "Let me see my foe and I'll cleave his skull to the teeth."
BoatSpeech: "BS"?
Ah, Boatspeech. Of course! I didn't have the book and forgot the name for it.
How do you like Seaborn? Not too weird, I hope?
Too weird?
Sense this story of sailing and strife will take place in the East Isles it would be appropriate to be weird!
Kirk
"You speak in riddles," said Conan uneasily. "Let me see my foe and I'll cleave his skull to the teeth."

Ah, the life of the sea.
Perhaps this will get you in the mood for a sea-based hero:
everybody creates characters?
because i'm getting old and senile I forgot if this was answered before. ok what was the question? oh, yeah. Are all of us creating characters for Kirk's game? or is Kirk's game a contingency scenario if certain people can't make it?
Join in on the slaughter
Brian,
In a word, Everybody, if you want to make a character please do! At some point I want to throw everybody's bacon on the fire.

Some things to clear up:
The "Dorjin homeland" is made up, as of course is SuQuorpa Mightly Claw magic. Is there a set number of skills under a homeland and/or Magic keyword? And the Occupation keyword for that matter.
From the Marine description doc sent out, it says that Marine's get a follower or sidekick under that keyword. I assume then that I don't have to describe my sidekick in my 100 words? (i will flesh the sidekick out later).
Is there a list of unit weapons, missles anywhere? has the ship's artillery weapon been decided on (is that that sunbeam thingy?)
will also finalize the skill values soon.
answers
There's a rough number of skills per culture, not a set number. Usually 6-9 or so.
Same for Magic.
Marines can have a follower or sidekick, but don't have to. And you have to mentionthem, but not describe them.
You can make up your unit and its weapons. Think Indonesia, Thailand, that sort of place. Sun mirrors are just one of many possibilities.
Don't forget Old Holy Shell as a possession.
Is SuQuorpa a god?
Bogo the crabby bastard
Brian,
Hopfully this will answer some of your questions...
The ship you have been a Marine on as of late has as it's main weapons the Sunscope, Arbilists, Onagers and Ballistas. Bogo can pick from these or you can come up with something from another ship that Bogo has helped man.
The personal weapons he would carry are the typical salior type...Cutlass, knife, boarding Axe, Boarding pike, Shortbows, crossbows, Grappling hook, fire pots, stink pots, etc... just think of a pirate movie and be creative, the only stipulation is no blackpowder weapons.
It will be fun to see how you play this character.
Kirk
"You speak in riddles," said Conan uneasily. "Let me see my foe and I'll cleave his skull to the teeth."
grrrr
The crabby bastard? Shut the $%# up! lol SuQuorpa is a God. She walks the floors of the seas and oceans eating the failings of the world. I will leave out a sidekick for now as I like the 100 words. I will add a skill based on old holy shell too. Arbilists, Onagers, and Ballistas, oh my. I will read up on them. Also I will figure out what melee weapon later on.
SuQuorpa's Nature
I just read back over this and it occurs to me that SuQuorpa mightbe a local name for the great god of the lower seas, Drospoly. Their "place" and function is very similar! Drospoly is the god of the deep ocean who receives everything from above, ultimately.
SuQuorpa could be another name for Drospoly, or she could be related to him. Not necessarily, but a thought.
Oh, and Drospoly is the husband of... Varchulanga.
