Taking the Long View

As the Rass game shifts into a different gear, I'd like to encourage the Heroes to look ahead.

We discussed a bit last Monday about your Plans, which helps us all.

However, most of those things were preparatory: improve relationships, fix curses, that kind of thing.

Youi have all been exposed to several different groups that take very long views of problems and the things they need to achieve their goals. (How long ago did Broosta ask you to go get the Seven Strings? Do you imagine that you are the only people she has made requests of?)

One way to look at this is to imagine that each of these groups has a theme they are imposing on the game.

So my provocative question to you is: What theme will the Rass impose on the game?

What long term goal are you working toward? It would hopefully be something you can state in a single sentence.

In this sense, even "expel the Lunars" is a step to a goal, not really a goal in itself. What do Will, Rasa and Oshun imagine as the future of Pavis? I bet you have differing visions!

In fact, let's find out an answer to that question: What do those three heroes imagine Pavis to be like ten years from now, in 1631?

Then answer the question: How do you intend to achieve that vision?

Will's Answer

Greetings,
In ten years' time, Will expects to have helped unite Pavis against the Lunars in order to be rid of them (within a year) and to support the Sartaite resistance with supplies (per Darran's vision) in order to finance the rebuilding of Pavis. Getting harp strings, honoring any request from the White Bull, participating in Temple ceremonies, training his warband to defend the city and dealmaking are steps along the path.

The Oshun Manifesto

What does Oshun imagine Pavis to be like ten years from now, in 1631?

The Old City and New City as one, in harmony, guided by the triumverate of Pavis Avatars leading, Mostali building and protecting, and true Zebra Riders as Cavalry.

Then answer the question: How does Oshun intend to achieve that vision?

I hope this doesn't have to be answered in one sentence too! :D

You will noticed that each of the triumverate has a representative in the Rass. Will I Am as Pavis (and Mostali!) , Rassa as a Pavis avatar, and Oshun as Zebra (duh). Oshun has no vision as to where Speth lies in this. If all Zebra Warriors know of Babeesta Gori is to 'stay as far away as possible', well she's pretty much a wildcard. And as long as the white baboon keeps away from the zebras, he is never in consideration.

With that said the draft plans are to first become Khan of his home clan the Burning Arrows. Riding the prestige of bringing back harp strings, Pavis Survivor patrons, assistance in the Night of hope ritual, Rass associations, and finally revelation of true Zebra khan lineage, Oshun becomes Khan. The journey continues with the 'cleansing' of Zebra fort. Cracks are appearing in the Lunar occupation (failed wedding, Soriel the short on the move, marble phalanx defeat) Oshun wants to return Zebra fort to the true Zebra riders. This is assuming that Will I AM will be Champion of Pavis by then (Oshun knows this will happen for sure). This final objective of cleansing Zebra fort is on a 3-4 year schedule. With the cleansing of Zebra Fort, Oshun forms a Zebra Tribe Khan exploratory committee to become Khan of the entire Zebra Tribe.
By this time (5th year) The satarite rebellion should be in full swing and this will force the lunars to concentrate their eye in other lands. THEN we strike and rid Pavis of all Lunar occupation once and for all. Then its partying til 1631 when we get back to the business of running Pavis the way he envisioned it.

That's the short of it.

Taking the Long View

What does Speth imagine Pavis to be like in ten years from now?

Speth shrugs her shoulders and says "I care not, as long as there are heads to clea...."

But the withering glance of her Ernaldan spirit stops her in mid-sentence. Cursing, Speth smacks her forehead with her hand...which wouldn't have hurt as much if Speth had put down her axe first.

When Speth regains consiousness she stands up and with a cool firm voice says "The Earth Mother will walk in the city again, free of Lunar influence, welcomed by a restored Rass family and Pavis himself. The peace and freedom of Pavis, bravely and perhaps bitterly won, will attract scores of people. These new citizens and folllowers can begin to rebuild the great city of Pavis."

How does Speth intend to achieve that vision?
"To my family, the Rass, I pledge an oath of guardianship, to obey and protect, as long as the blessing of the goddess remains upon the Rass and blood flows through my veins."
